Marcus is a reading app made by Vuvee. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes and why — in plain language. The short version:your reading stays on your device by default, an account is optional, and we don't run ads, don't use third-party analytics and don't sell your data.

Using Marcus without an account

Marcus works fully as a guest. The books you import, your reading progress, highlights, notes and settings are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded anywhere — with one exception: the AI and import features below.

If you create an account

Accounts are optional and exist so your library can sync and be restored on a new device. When you sign up we collect:

AI features

When you ask Marcus to explain a word or passage, summarize, or recap a book, the relevant text is sent to our server and processed by Anthropic's Claude API to generate the response. We keep a daily usage count per user to enforce fair-use limits. Passages are used only to generate your response — not for advertising or profiling.

Book imports

When you import a PDF, the file is processed on our server to extract its text and images (including recognizing scanned pages) and the result is returned to your device. EPUB and text files are processed on-device.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to know whether your subscription is active so Pro features unlock across devices.

Notifications

Reading reminders are optional and scheduled locally on your device. If push notifications are enabled, a push token is registered with our server so we can deliver them; you can revoke this anytime in iOS notification settings.

Emails

We send transactional emails only — sign-in links, account confirmations and similar — via Resend. No marketing emails without your consent.

What we don't do

Our servers keep standard technical logs (such as timestamps and IP addresses) for security and reliability; these are not used to profile you.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app underSettings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and all synced data (books, progress, notes) from our servers. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app. You can also email us and we'll delete your data for you.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailingmarcus@vuvee.me. If you're in the EU or a region with similar data-protection laws, these rights are guaranteed to you and we honor them for everyone regardless of location.

Children

Marcus is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and the date above. Continued use of Marcus after a change means you accept the updated policy.
